This Artist Is Hardly An Average Joe

Few have painted a picture of hope for those fighting HIV and AIDS more vibrantly than self-taught artist and Vancouverite Joe Average. He says an HIV-positive diagnosis at age 27 was a key personal turning point. In the three years that followed, he ultimately decided to dedicate the remainder of his life to pursuing an art career full time. In the 13 years since, his work and personal story have made him a celebrated supporter of HIV/AIDS awareness efforts. His One World, One Hope image, created for the 11th International AIDS conference in Vancouver, was used for the first AIDS awareness postage stamp. His works may be found in several galleries, as well and on his Web site, www.joeaverageart.com.
